Anemia Screening - back to top
Anemia occurs when you have too few red blood cells in your blood. Oxygen
gets transported throughout the body by red blood cells. The lack of oxygen to
your body is what causes the fatigue associated with anemia. Many people are not
even aware that they suffer from anemia. The anemia screening involves a small
finger stick in order to obtain a sample of blood to determine whether or not
the participant has anemia. This screening takes approximately 5 minutes per
participant including education.
Bloodborne Pathogens Training - back
to top
OSHA requires all employers to develop a customized written Exposure Control
Plan and provide annual education to employees at risk for occupational
exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials. AREUFIT
offers a one hour Bloodborne Pathogens Course that complies with OSHA and CDC
standards.
Blood Pressure Measurement - back to top
High blood pressure directly increases the risk of coronary heart disease (which
leads to heart attack) and stroke, especially when it's present with other risk
factors. Blood pressure measurement is a preliminary way of assessing an
individual's cardiovascular status. This screening takes approximately 5 minutes
per participant including education.
Blood Typing - back to top
Although most Americans do not know their blood type, it is important to know
especially in the event of an emergency. In the case of a transfusion, a
person's blood type needs to be compatible with the donor's blood type. If not,
an allergic-type reaction can occur resulting from the immune system of the
recipient attacking the incompatible donor blood cells as invading organisms.
Blood typing is determined by the type of antigens or markers that are on the
surface of red blood cells (either "A" or "B") and if there are antibodies to a
portion of the blood type known as the Rh factor (either "positive" or
"negative"). Blood type is inherited from and dependent upon, the blood type of
an individual's parents. A simple fingerstick test can determine your blood
type in seconds.
Bod Pod
Body weight alone can be misleading, while body composition reflects the results
of physical training and nutritional practices. The BodPod is highly accurate
and has excellent repeatability. In fact no other body composition measurement
can claim the combination of accuracy, safety and speed. This method of testing
will differentiate lean mass from fat mass within minutes!

number of calories your body needs to maintain basic body functions. Knowing
your RMR can aid in weight management and improving personal nutrition.
Body Composition
During the past 20 years, obesity among adults has risen significantly in the
United States. The latest data from the National Center for Health Statistics
show that 30 percent of U.S. adults 20 years of age and older-over 60 million
people-are obese. Being overweight or obese increases the risk of many diseases
and health conditions. Body Composition measures the percentage of fat your body
has in proportion to your lean body tissues (muscles, bones, organs).
Measurements can be done using skinfold calipers, an infrared device (Futrex),
or air displacement (BodPod).
Cholesterol Screenings
A high level of cholesterol in the blood - hypercholesterolemia - is a major
risk factor for coronary heart disease, which leads to heart attack. Knowing
your cholesterol level is an important part of decreasing your risk for
cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, or other health problems.
Cholesterol screening only involves a small finger stick in order to obtain a
sample of blood. Total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, or full lipid panels are
available.
Dermascan
Excessive exposure to the sun can cause skin cancer which is currently the most
common type of cancer. More than 800,000 people get skin cancer each year. The
Dermascan is an interactive tool, which enables the individual to view the
amount of sun damage on their face. This screening takes approximately 5 minutes
per participant including education.
Diabetic Foot Screening - back to top
This screening is carried out by a nurse who is familiar with the foot and able
to perform basic strength and sensory testing. It is used to detect nerve damage
which can create conditions in the foot that produce secondary problems such as
deformity and foot ulceration, and may lead to amputation. This screening takes
approximately 10 minutes per participant including education.

normal and where the individual stands on the Heart Health Rating Scale.
Participants need to complete a questionnaire regarding their health behaviors
and health history. This screening takes approximately 5 minutes per
participant.
Hemoglobin A1c Testing
A1c is formed when glucose in the blood binds to hemoglobin making a stable
glycated hemoglobin complex. Measuring the hemoglobin A1c levels will reveal a
client's blood sugar control over the past 2-3 months. A blood sample is
collected from a quick and easy finger stick. The American Diabetes Association
(ADA) recommends A1c as the best test to find out if a patient's blood sugar is
under control over time. This screening takes approximately 12 minutes per
participant including education.
hsCRP (High sensitivity C-Reactive Protein) -
back to top
C-Reactive Protein is a marker in the blood stream that indicates inflammation.
Many studies have shown an association between elevated levels of inflammatory
markers and the future development of heart disease, even in apparently healthy
individuals.
Intoxiclock - back to top
Many people consume alcohol without knowledge or concern as to how it is
impacting their body or how their impairment is having an affect on their
judgment.
Intoxiclock demonstrates how a person's level of intoxication changes with
increasing levels of alcohol ingestion and the rate at which the body
metabolizes it. It helps to educate individuals about impairment and Blood
Alcohol Level (B.A.C.). This screening takes approximately 5 minutes per
participant.
Memory Screening - back to top
Scientists think that as many as 4.5 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer's
disease. The disease usually begins after age 60, and risk goes up with age.
This memory screening helps identify people with a high probability of dementia
characteristics of Alzheimer's disease. The screening consists of a memory test,
drawing test, verbal fluency, and an orientation test. It takes approximately
10-12 minutes per participant including education.
Metabolic Syndrome Screening
Metabolic Syndrome is a cluster of heart disease and diabetes risk factors
including excess body weight, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and elevated
blood sugar which promotes the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular
disease and increases the risk for type II diabetes. Workers who fit the
criteria of Metabolic Syndrome cost a company $259 more per month than a healthy
worker of the same age and sex. Our Metabolic Syndrome screening includes
fasting glucose and lipid levels, blood pressure, and waist circumference
screenings. The results are complied to give an overall assessment of the
individual's risk for the syndrome
Osteoporosis Screening
Bone mineral density (BMD) tests can measure bone density safely and painlessly.
The PIXI Bone Densitometer is a safe, fast and non-invasive tool to assess BMD
by examining only the heel of the foot. The client simply removes shoe in order
for this test to be done. The PIXI uses dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA),
the established standard for the estimation of BMD. This screening takes
approximately 7 minutes per participant including education.
Peripheral Arterial
Disease
PAD - ABI (ankle/brachial index) is used to test for Peripheral Arterial
Disease. PAD is a serious, yet common condition among the older and diabetic
population. It is a circulatory condition that may cause pain or cramping in the
legs while walking.
The ABI screening procedure is just like having a standard blood pressure test,
but with the use of an ultrasound instrument called a Doppler, instead of a
stethoscope. Blood pressure cuffs are placed on both arms and ankles to listen
for blood flow. Differences in pressure are then calculated to determine risk.
This screening takes approximately 10 minutes per participant including
education.
