Blood Pressure Education Month

May is High Blood Pressure Education Month. You can maintain healthy blood pressure and lower your risk for heart disease and stroke by making lifestyle changes like:

  • Get your blood pressure checked regularly
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Exercise for at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week. You can break it up into a few small walks to better fit it into your schedule, or if you’re unable to be active for a long period of time.
  • Eat a healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables, and low in sodium
  • Quit smoking
  • Drink alcohol in moderation, no more than 2 drinks/day for men and 1/day for women
  • Take all prescribed medications as directed
